Pale Blue Jacaranda
At eight years of age I saw a huge Jacaranda in full flower in the middle of a field of dry hay coloured grass, driving back to Brisbane with my parents, after visiting my grandparents in their Beaudesert home. The blazing sun bleached the colour, and my memory is of pale blue, not mauve coloured flowers.
“Pale Blue Jacaranda” 1970, was one of seven small paintings I created in the kitchen pantry converted to a studio, in Clement Meadmore’s apartment at 317 West 99 Street New York. They were the inspiration for my series of large paintings,“The Geometrics.”
